Work commissioned and produced by inSite/Casa Gallina, Mexico, 2017-2018.

After an open call to neighbors interested in weaving, Dellekamp worked with a group of women of different ages. Over the course of a year of continuous meetings, they created an intimate space for conversation and exchange. As a strategy for the group’s integration, Dellekamp invited them to bring objects to the sessions that were affectively relevant to each of them. These objects became catalysts for conversations in which bonds of sisterhood and mutual support were forged, allowing them to recognize each other in the stories they shared with one another.

Given the value that these objects had in the dynamics of the group, Dellekamp decided to reproduce them to scale in porcelain and to invite each of the participants to break them in a symbolic act of self-recognition. The porcelains were then reconstructed using the Japanese technique of kinsugi. They were reconstructed in parallel with the cracks and scars that identify and have shaped the lives of each of the collaborators.

The piece Porcelana is thus Marianna Dellekamp’s way of sharing and communicating an intimate female group experience in which all participants, including the artist, shared a meaningful experience.
